Here are some of the top buying triggers for any market:

1. Emotional buying…

To get people to buy, appeal to their emotions. Get them
to feel emotionally attached to something, or to think that
they have to have a certain something, in order to be happy
and/or fulfilled. Anyone who feels a strong emotional pull
to buy will do so, hence all of the sentimental TV
commercials you see.

2. Popularity buying…

With this tactic, you want to get your buying audience to
think that they just have to have your product, in order to
"keep up with the Jones’s." Just like when we were in high
school, people still tend to feel, that if they don’t have
certain things, they won’t be cool and won’t be seen as
worthy of talking to, or befriending in the eyes of their
peers and neighbours. That’s why so many people feel they
have to have the latest gadgets that come out…they want
to seem cool.

3. Impulse buying…

With this, you want to get people to buy without really
thinking about it. That’s the reason for those stands of
candy and gum and magazines at grocery store check-out
counters. People see these things and figure that since
they’re buying something anyway, they may as well add one
more thing to the list. This is one of the strongest buying
triggers and can work for online businesses too, in the form
of one time offers. Use it, and see how much your sales
increase.

Of course, there are other more complex triggers, but even
just implementing these will help to increase your sales
dramatically.
