Have you ever thought about Advertising in the same breath as Social Media?

It’s important to pick a Social Media site that is perfectly aligned to your business niche – nobody would most likely argue with that!

But unless you’re Meryl Streep, you can’t fake interest in a niche you’re not passionate about yourself.

But on the other hand, if you’re too passionate about it, it’s easy to make some fatal mistakes… such as sharing too much information for free, or assuming that because you like teen Vampire novels, everyone in your niche will too. A lot of marketers have turned off more customers than they know, by sharing ‘Too Much’ Information about their personal lives.

If you’ve been in marketing even for a fairly short length of time, you most likely DO know quite a lot about the right balance to strike, with your niche…and whether or not you’re bored to tears by the niche you’ve chosen.

What you may not know, however, is that it’s possible to become passionate about a niche, if you genuinely see opportunities for helping people in some sort of need (even if this “need” is for a frivolous and fun subject). And Social Networks are all about sharing, community and interactivity.

They are different in many ways, however, from traditional static websites, and even from web 2.0 blogs…and it’s important to understand the online “culture” of each site (as well as its demographic).
